Band

There are numerous opportunities available for students in the band program at Jefferson High School.

Each of the three concert bands (Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic) at Jefferson is a curriculum-based class that meets every day for rehearsals. The concert bands perform at three to four concerts every year, plus a conference band festival in the spring. Lessons are provided for everyone in the program.

Some of the extra ensembles students have opportunities to perform in include:

           • Jazz I and Jazz II
           • Pep Band
           • Honor Bands
           • Central Lakes All-Conference Band
           • Solo and Ensemble Contest.

The Marching Band includes students from the high school band and orchestra programs. The Marching Band traditionally travels in the summer and performs in seven or eight parades statewide, in addition to taking a major trip every third year. In December 2006, the band marched in two prestigious parades representing the City of Alexandria and the state of Minnesota. First, the JHS Marching Band was one of 15 high school marching bands from across the nation that participated in the Capital One Citrus Bowl Parade in dowtown Orlando. Second, the band also marched in the Macy's Universal Parade on the grounds of Universal Studios, Florida. ABC televised the Capital One Bowl Parade nationally.
